Tsunami and SHIVA Charity
SHIVA Charity believes that education is the key that unlocks the prison cell of child poverty. Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world, and schools suffer with a lack of equipment and teacher training. Classrooms are dingy and dark. By rebuilding schools, renovating classrooms, and supplying equipment, we help to create a better environment for the students and teachers. Child sponsorship gives free education, uniform and welfare to each sponsored child, while training teachers to use educational resources, brings creativity to an otherwise strict "chalk and talk" and "copy" regime.
SHIVA Charity's chair of trustees (Bob Uppington) was in Sri Lanka when the tsunami struck the islands shores. One of the charity nursery schools on the East Coast lost all its children, and Bob vowed to replace as many destroyed nursery schools as possible. 29 were rebuilt, and each school is free, and funded by monthly donations. Last year the charity also embarked on a teachers' resources training programme for these schools, and we hope to develop and extend this to other schools in Sri Lanka. WE HOPE THAT YOU WILL SUPPORT SHIVA CHARITY, SO THAT WE CAN CONTINUE OUR VALUABLE WORK.
