Rain water collected from roof guttering
into a filter tank
and made available to use.
Delft island is arrid and without water most of the year. The Sri Lanka Navy provide some drinking water, but other water for washing and irrigation and normal family use, is very difficult to provide for the family. As it is a very small island, even well water can be salinated. Rain water can be collected from roof guttering into large filter tanks, and this provides enough water for 20 families throughout the year. However there are very few of these. They cost 3000 to make and to install from a rooftop to a tank and to a water supply with tap. If you or your school or organisation feel you can fund one or more of these tanks please email Bob Uppington (Chair of Trustees, SHIVA Charity) at shivanepal@yahoo.com
